๐Ÿคง Cough & Cold in Children

What actually works

โœ… What Actually Helps

๐Ÿฏ Honey (age 1+) - 1/2 to 1 teaspoon before bed. As effective as cough medicine!
๐Ÿ’ง Fluids - Water, warm soup, popsicles. Keeps mucus thin.
๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Humidifier - Cool mist in bedroom helps congestion.
๐Ÿ’จ Saline drops + suction - Best for stuffy noses in babies.
๐Ÿ˜ด Rest & elevated head - Helps drainage and recovery.

๐Ÿšซ What to AVOID

Do NOT give to children under 4:
  • OTC cough/cold medicines (Dimetapp, Triaminic, etc.)
  • Decongestants
  • Antihistamines for cold symptoms

These don't work in young children and can cause serious side effects.

โš ๏ธ Also avoid:
  • Honey for babies under 1 year (botulism risk)
  • Vapor rubs on face (can irritate airways)
  • Aspirin (Reye's syndrome risk)

๐Ÿ’Š Safe Medications

That's basically it for young children. Most cold medicines simply don't help kids.
